Finding Your Place at Blackbridge

Our admissions process is guided by a single, fundamental question: who is most likely to thrive in our unique academic environment and, in turn, contribute to the vibrancy of our community? We seek more than just high marks. We are looking for the intellectually curious, the creatively courageous, and the collaboratively minded. We are looking for students who are not afraid to ask difficult questions, challenge established ideas, and engage with perspectives different from their own.

Our Holistic Approach

Each application to Blackbridge is read with care and attention by our admissions tutors. We do not use algorithms to screen candidates. We believe that a student is more than a set of statistics, and we commit the time to understand the individual behind the application. We consider your academic record, of course, but we place it in the context of your personal journey, your experiences, and the opportunities available to you. We are interested in your personal statement, your portfolio of work (where applicable), and what your referees have to say about your character and potential. We are looking for evidence of intellectual spark, a genuine passion for your chosen field, and the resilience to succeed in a demanding academic programme.

Pathways to Admission

  • Sixth Form (A-Level Programme): Admission to our selective Sixth Form is typically based on performance at the GCSE level (or equivalent) and an interview. We are looking for students who demonstrate a strong academic foundation and, more importantly, a clear sense of purpose and a readiness for the increased independence and intellectual rigor of A-Level study. We want to see a genuine enthusiasm for the subjects you wish to pursue.
  • Undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degrees): Our primary criteria for undergraduate admission are your A-Level results (or equivalent qualifications, such as the International Baccalaureate). However, the strength of your application is significantly enhanced by a compelling personal statement that articulates why you are drawn to your chosen discipline and to Blackbridge specifically. For design-based programmes, a portfolio showcasing your creative process and potential is essential. For some of our more competitive programmes, an interview may be required to explore your ideas and motivations in greater depth.
  • Postgraduate (Master’s & Doctoral Degrees): Entry into our postgraduate programmes requires a strong undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university. But academic achievement is just the starting point. We place significant weight on your statement of purpose and, for research degrees (PhD), a well-defined research proposal. We want to understand the questions that drive you, the problems you want to solve, and why you believe the research environment and faculty at Blackbridge are the right fit to support your scholarly ambitions. Relevant professional experience can also be a significant asset, particularly for our MBA and other professionally-oriented Master’s programmes.

Applying to a place like Blackbridge is a significant step. We don’t take your interest for granted, and we are committed to a process that is as transparent and humane as we can make it.
